ArborOne Presents Check to SC FFA

Florence, SC - Twelve years ago, Jason Creamer was on the stage at the South Carolina FFA State Convention, sitting under the picture of George Washington, as state treasurer. Standing in the crowd of high energy high school students that made up the State FFA Convention on Thursday night in Clemson, SC, brought it all back to Jason.

Jason Creamer and Charles Vernon, both ArborOne Farm Credit employees, were at the FFA State Convention to present a check for $17,890 to the South Carolina FFA Program. That money represents half the proceeds from ArborOne’s annual sporting clays event, Aim-At-Ag. The other half goes to the South Carolina 4-H Program.

"It’s neat to see this concentrated group of good, bright kids, that have impressed their advisors and excelled in the FFA programs," said Creamer.

And those programs are not easy. There is leadership training which not only teaches goal setting and prioritizing; but also public speaking, etiquette classes, and competitions for public speaking and speech writing and extemporaneous speaking. Enormous value is placed on the hands on, real world training within all of the agriculture fields. There is learning in the classroom and projects outside the classroom. And contests – what often gets the most press – contests in soil judging and evaluation; livestock and horse judging; tractor driving; and so much more.

As Charles Vernon pointed out, "It was great to see that much excitement in the attendees. But it was even better to know that the money we raised with the Aim-At-Ag Sporting Clays Event is going for the programs training the future of agriculture, the future that is standing in this room, the kids."

Jason Creamer challenged the energetic crowd, "All I gained during my FFA years has helped me attain my goals, getting me where I am today. I challenge you to do whatever it takes to give back to those who have done so much for you through FFA."
